Goodbye, Fr. Gerry!

Fr Gerry with YFFToday was Fr. Gerry’s last Sunday, and we held a small retirement party after each of the three masses, to celebrate 18 years of service and to thank Fr. Gerry for his love for our parish and community all these years.

I prepared a photo slideshow of his life, including from his ordination, his childhood, and even a baby photo, and was honoured to present it at each of the parties, twice in Korean after the two Korean masses, and with huge relief in English after our afternoon English mass. Thank you again to Fr. Gerry for giving me access to his private photo collection. I hope I didn’t embarrass him too much! (Although embarrassment was part of my intention…!)

Other contributions included songs from our choir, from Sanctus our English singing group, and a rendition of Danny Boy from our high school students. Thank you also to all those who prepared food and snacks and cake throughout the day, and all those who helped to set up and run each party so smoothly.

We wish Fr. Gerry a happy and restful retirement, and as he will be residing at the rectory at St. Thomas in Anaheim, he won’t be far and I personally hope to see him again very soon, and regularly!
